We just came back from Meet the Teacher and Open House. The girls were especially counting down to this day because we would finally see the inside of their brand new school. Since it's right around the corner from our house, we have watched the building process- from clearing the land, to the stone and tile on the outside, to the playground, to even the stripes painted in the parking lot, to the letters of the school name being put up on the front.
Once we walked in the school (I think I was more excited than the girls), it was beautiful!! It's the first "green" school in our city, which means it's environmentally friendly and everything used in the building is eco-friendly. You walk in on the top floor which are where the administrative offices are and 3-5th grades. Downstairs are the gyms, cafeteria, library, computer lab and kinder-2nd grades. The set up is really nice because each grade level classroom's are in a cul-de-sac and are color coded.
Earlier in the week the girls received postcards from the teachers in the mail. Theresa was going to have Mrs. G and Kayla's teacher was Mrs. A. Theresa was a little disappointed about not having Kayla's old kinder teacher but she quickly got over that when we met Mrs. G. She was super sweet and we even found out that her old friend from pre-k, J, is in her class!! That makes me feel better knowing that Theresa will already have a buddy in there.

Kayla's teacher was also super sweet. She gave the parents a plastic baggie enclosed with a tissue, tea bag and cotton ball and a sweet little note:
"Dear Parents,
Thank you for entrusting your child to me. I promise to do my very best every day to be your child's companion in learning.
After you have wiped your tears, make a cool glass tea. Put your feet up and relax. Then hold the cotton ball in your hand. The softness will help you to recall the gentle spirit of your child.
I will work alongside you this year to help your child grow.

Kayla knows two little girls in her class which, again, is a relief for me. After running into some other moms, we heard that Mrs. A is tough! I'm excited to see what new things Kayla will be challenged with this year.
After seeing their classrooms and meeting their teachers, we walked around the school to check it out.

We saw a lot of familiar faces. Everything was so sparkly and clean and we could tell the staff was genuinely excited. It makes me feel good knowing the girls are sooo pumped about starting the new school year. Two more days.....

What an awesome looking school and the teachers sound wonderful!!! Reading your blog makes me excited for their first day of school too! I know it's going to be a wonderful school year for the cutie pies...the only problem is they are growing way too fast!
