A few weeks ago we decided to go to the beach , Corpus Christi/Port A, over July 4th weekend. Since Mike didn't have his Saturday class on the holiday weekend, we left early that morning. The drive was pretty uneventful unless you count the occasional "are we there yet?", "can we go to the beach now?" and then the heavy sighing from the backseat when we told the girls "no, we are not almost there yet."
When we finally did make it we headed straight for the beach. The weather was perfect- cloudy with a slight breeze, not too hot. We were nervous all week that Hurricane Alex was going to ruin our plans but nope, he and his remnants left just in time.
The girls had a blast!! Usually Theresa fizzles out quickly but this year, she was all over the place; walking on the sand with no shoes (GASP!!) and even in the mounds and mounds of seaweed that was all from the hurricane.

Kayla and Mike were where they usually are- jumping and riding the waves. This year they found and caught dozens of hermit crabs.

Princess was a sight to see. She was hilarious. When we first put her on the sand, she didn't really know what to think of it and you could tell she wasn't sure what she was standing on. We tied her to the car and she would go and sniff the water but as soon as a wave would wash up, she would run away in fright and hide behind Theresa or me. Finally, Mike picked her up and took her out to the water and she loved it. She was hopping all over the place and swimming. When she got out of the water, she would roll all over the sand (I guess to dry off) which of course with her long hair, made her look like a mess. Her favorite thing and mission was to catch a seagull. I think some of those mean birds taunted her on purpose since she couldn't get very far on the leash.

Everyone that walked by stopped and petted her and she was friendly to all, eating up the attention with her tail wagging. She makes a horrible guard dog.
We left around dinner time and checked into our hotel, showered and headed out for some dinner at a family favorite. Snoopy's!

After Snoopy's, we walked around the area and took some pictures.

Back at the hotel we put the girls (and Princess) to bed and it was game on for Mike and I. Since we weren't ready to go to sleep, but had to be quiet to not wake the girls, we played Scrabble and then watched a movie on my phone.
We woke up bright and early and headed back to the beach. When we were getting ready to leave, the ice cream man came by and the girls had a special treat- Scooby Doo and Dora popsicles.

We left the beach around dinner time again, used the shower rinsers, changed into dry clothes, and headed to get some dinner. After dinner, we took the girls to a huge playground that we had seen earlier in the day. We played there, walked on the pier and then went to get a good spot for the fireworks show that was at the USS Lexington. Again, Princess was great. She sat there on the steps with us and just looked at everyone. Although, as the time was getting closer for the fireworks to start, I started to get a little nervous as to how she was going to react. And sure enough, she started barking at them but then sitting between Mike and I, we both looked at her because she was shivering. She tried to act all tough but failed miserably. Before the show ended, she looked like this: (again, GREAT guard dog)
